In this podcast, we will not be talking about how to tattoo, or any technical tricks of the trade. There are thousands of other platforms just for that. Here, we talk about tattoos from the collectors point of view. We’ll share advice for collectors, as well as our specific experiences from our own tattoo journeys. We want to prepare, and inspire other collectors.
We’ll talk about our own thoughts and inspiration, as tattoo collectors, as well as the journey of our guests. We’ll delve into everything from first tattoos, to full body suits, and everything in between.
Haley Adams is live with Ruby Croak for Episode #8 of "Live in the Castro"
This Miami native is self described as being raised by Brooklyn. Ruby Croak attended SVA (School of Visual Arts) and MICA (Maryland Institute College of Art and Design) long enough to realize that she would never appreciate adult supervision. This rebellious nature led her to slinging drinks at some of NYC's prominent downtown nightclubs, and now more recently into slinging inks as a tattooist. Studying under Big Jaz Tattoo in Brooklyn for several years before relocating to Los Angeles, Ruby currently continues to paint in addition to tattooing. She specializes in watercolor and portraiture, and her art inspiration is primarily based off of Native American culture. After working for several years at "Artistic Element" alongside renowned tattoo artists and traveling the world tattooing Ruby has managed to make a name for herself within the tattoo industry. Her passion for the arts and community inspired her to open her own tattoo studio/art gallery in the West Adams district of LA in 2017. "High Art Tattoo Gallery" is currently providing beautiful tattoos and art events with the purpose of engaging and uplifting the community.
Paul Talbot is often cited as one of the world’s leading exponents of a graphic tattoo style that inspired a whole scene like Andy Warhol art dragged thru 20yrs of dirty rehearsal rooms & beer soaked punk gigs.
In a sea of 'sameness' his instantly recognisable style - that combines street art influences with contemporary portraiture and graphic design - emerges as a fresh voice with a clear vision. The underlying theme of his work speaks to a far broader audience. He gives us permission to do not wait for the stars to align. If the road doesn’t exist, make your own.
He describes his work as KarmaPunk™ Collages - stills from a postmodern, science-fiction movie set ten minutes in the future and his process as Re-examining Bits and Pieces of What’s Been Discarded in the Haste of the Late 20th Century and Sticking Them Together.
‘I’m a Good Old Fashioned Rebel Challenging the Notion that Tattoo Iconography is Relevant to a 21st Century Working-Class, 80’s Analogue, Comic Book Reading Suburban Rock’n’Roll Kid from the Middle of England.’
Paul has won a number of awards in both design and tattooing, including an industry award for ‘most innovative style’. He has also been nominated for a Grammy twice, is a published animal rights poet and producer of a number 1 hit single - all facts that he likes to drop into conversation whenever he can! He has never written a best-selling book or hosted his own radio show. But he's working on it...

Be inspired by my reinventing story. I was homeless and addicted to crystal meth. I have been clean for 10 years now by the Grace of God. I did it on my own -cold turkey- I grew up in extreme poverty in Mexico raised by my Grandmother. I was kidnapped by my mother at the age of 5. She smuggled me into America to a life of sexual abuse. I ran away from home at the age of 15 years old and was forced to drop out. I am the oldest of 56 grandchildren and 52 great grandkids on my mom's side alone. In my 20s I was transferred to California to open an office in LA. I've owned restaurant & bars. I even worked along side Long Beach's Mayor as her legislative assistant. Only to hit rock bottom, alone and homeless with out a penny to my name. I am currently writing my book because I love my life and honor my story thus far. I want others to see that you can overcome abandonment, extreme poverty, sexual abuse, physical and emotional abuse, drug abuse, eating disorders, mental disorders, illnesses, sexist and racist prejudices and still make it to the top. Like I did! I have had ovarian surgery, a hysterectomy, a lumpectomy, survived a mold on my face that threated my life with 85% mortality rate, I have celiac disease, and Meniere’s disease that crippled my hearing BUT consider myself the most beautiful woman alive! 6 years ago, I opened the first PERMANENT COSMETICS & MEDICAL TATTOOING studio in Long Beach Califronia and I couldn't be more proud. I love my clients and students and I am a forever grateful business owner. In 2020 I joined my beautiful partner's (Ivana Tattoo Art) luxury lifestyle brand: ITA LA Since 2018, we've traveled all over the world teaching, inspiring, and removing stigmas and barriers that still plague the tattoo insdutry. Together we are on a mission to reinvent the world of tattooing with our survival story and with "justlove"
