Chris Martin was born and raised in Greensboro, NC and now works at Tres Leches studio in Oakland, CA. Chris started in the fine art scene which led him to the San Francisco Bay Area then later allowing him an apprenticeship in tattooing. Chris has an amazing in-depth style in tattooing he calls African American Traditional. Chris builds the story, connects the ideology, symbolism, and superstitions of American traditional tattoo art and the African diaspora, giving American traditional new narratives and culture. -

“As Above, So Below” - The Alchemy of Indirect Oil Painting - Part 1: The Underpainting
Indirect oil painting is the scenic route to painting, in which the various processes are separated into distinct steps along the way, giving full attention to the purpose and potentials inherent in each stage. Indirect painting can be used for realistic and imaginal work alike, and allows for a great deal of creativity to be expressed at each step of the process. This course will be broken down into two basic stages: Underpainting and Overpainting, though the indirect painting process can ultimately be developed into far more complex and sophisticated avenues to suit the individual desires of the artist. This is not a completion-based course, but aims to provide a number of strategies for layering oil paint in a technically sound manner. -
